Craniosacral Therapy in Edinburgh
The Power of Touch
Craniosacral therapy in Edinburgh. Gentle, hands-on support for your nervous system, breathing, and whole-body health.
Why Groundswell?
Groundswell – a deep undulation of the ocean often caused by a distant storm. Groundswells occur in long, slow, regular rhythms — often 10 or 20 seconds between waves.
Like the ocean, people have natural rhythms (e.g. respiratory, hormonal, digestive) many of which operate beyond our conscious awareness. Exposure to traumatic events can change our body’s natural background rhythms. If adverse experiences persist, our stress response changes and our nervous system can become dysregulated. Instead of living in an open state (rest and digest) we become used to a defensive condition (fight, flight, collapse). The loss of connection with our body’s background rhythms means our sensory maps are fragmented. We lose our capacity to feel grounded, to feel at ease in our skin.
How I Can Help
I support people to access sensations and feelings that reside at the edge of their awareness — imprints from the past that left traces in our body which continue to influence how we live and how we are.
Dysregulated Nervous Systems
Many people today live with a nervous system that feels on edge or overwhelmed. This can manifest as anxiety, poor sleep, chronic pain, or a constant feeling of tension or guarding. Craniosacral therapy can help to reset the nervous system, release tension in the body and support homeostasis.
Dysfunctional Breathing Patterns
Our breathing patterns can become shallow, fast or we develop a tendency to hyperventilate. Our intercostal muscles stiffen which restricts the movement of our diaphragm. Craniosacral therapy addresses these restrictions, helping you breathe more freely.
Chronic Pain & Tension
I am particularly interested in the connection between how we breathe (respiratory system), our sense of where our body is in space (vestibular system) and our ability to regulate ourselves (nervous system). Exploring these connections supports the body in moving towards health.
Meet Rory
I believe that real change in people’s lives comes from working with bodies — not least the parts that are not known to us. By making space for those parts, craniosacral therapy offers a way to slow down and to become (re)attuned to our bodies.
